Data and Puzzle Methodology
Our puzzles are software-generated from reviewed sports records, but publication is governed by explicit editorial rules. The goal is not to produce the largest possible question bank; it is to publish questions whose wording, answer, scope, and source agree.
Sources and attribution
We use only production-approved datasets listed on our Sources page. Each statistical answer retains its source name, version, and supporting record identifiers.
Season scope
Regular season, postseason, and combined statistics are distinct scopes. A statistical template must declare its scope, and generation fails when scope is missing or unknown.
Historical team names
Team labels are resolved for the season or event date, rather than replaced with a franchise’s current city or name.
Validation and quarantine
Before publication, the answer, value, ranking scope, historical label, and provenance must agree. A failed question is quarantined and is never replaced with fabricated fallback content.
Difficulty and fair distractors
Difficulty comes from the sports knowledge required, not from trick wording. Multiple-choice distractors must be plausible within the same sport and context, while remaining unambiguously wrong under the declared season and statistical scope.
Daily publication
Shared daily games are pinned to a calendar date so every player receives the same challenge. Replayable modes may draw a fresh round from an eligible verified bank, but they use the same answer and provenance checks as daily games.
Active players and corrections
Changing facts use an explicit as-of date. Published snapshots remain stable; verified corrections are logged with a reason, revision, and correction time. Past Daily 10 answer pages come from those stored snapshots rather than answers reconstructed after publication.
